After the flop and turn there is one final round of betting, this is called the river. The 5th and final community card will then be dealt face up and the showdown begins. The player with the best five card poker hand wins the pot which is all of the bets made during that particular round.
There is a lot of variance in poker but over the long run a combination of skill and luck will virtually eliminate luck’s effects.
